ART and How to Protect it

The Art of Art and how to protect it
Argh! Ever write a blog and then it disappears?
Anyway, what I PREVIOUSLY wrote was about art…art is powerful..it can take you places, transport you into another time, place and even dimension. Not all art is good, but all art is a creation…a symphony of dreams and statements and thought provoking illustrations, brush sweeps and details of someone emoting…
That’s cool. Art can be like great literature…tell a story in a painting. Art can make you happy, mad, confused, sad and even a little crazy. But that is part of of the beauty of art! I envy those who can draw. I truly do. I try to allow my hand to take me where my thoughts are going but all I get are scribbles of something of a “wanna-be”. So, my hat is off to all of you who are fortunate enough and blessed enough to have the talent take us places, move us inspire us and change and even tranform us. THANK YOU.
Bags Unlimited has lots of product info to help you understand what products are best used to protect your art…whether you supply or buy, it’s important to protect art in acid free products. You can read more about this at www.bagsunlimited.com

I come from a long line of comic book collectors and work with tons of them as well. I'm not a comic book collector myself, but I am knocked off my feet by the number of guests that are coming to this show. The show starts tomorrow April 20th and runs through Sunday April 22nd. Stop by our booth and say hi to Dave and Tom. Ask them to give you a great "show discount" price on supplies! Also ask them about the new storage box we are carrying for "Trade" Paperbacks and Hard Covers. They should have some there! If they've sold out of the Trade Storage Box- remember all shipping is free on orders of $200 or more if you're West of the Mississippi River and there is no charge for shipping on orders of any size if you are located East of the Mississippi River.

Independent Record Stores Struggling?

Louisville Filmmaker to Screen Record Store Documentary

by ERIN KEANE on APRIL 2, 2012
Louisville filmmaker Scott Shuffitt will screen his new documentary about the struggles of independent record stores Saturday at the Louisville Science Center.
Shuffitt began working on “Brick and Mortar and Love” in early 2010 after former ear X-tacy owner John Timmons issued a public appeal to help save his store. Shuffitt originally hoped the film would be a rally call to keep the store’s doors open, but ear X-tacy closed before the documentary could be completed.
“Obviously that can’t happen now. But the idea is still the same, that there are still independent record stores that need support,” Shuffitt says.
Now, Shuffitt hopes his film will help others understand the struggles independent music retailers face and what the cultural insight music communities stand to lose if they fail.
“I appreciate culture. When I would go into ear X-tacy it was inspiring to me to be in there, to be in that place, to be surrounded by the feel of the store,” he says. “To know that the people who worked there loved and cared about music and were excited about turning me on to new music, that’s very valuable.”
Timmons will join Shuffitt for a Q & A session after the film.
Though “Brick and Mortar and Love” focuses Timmons’ struggles to keep ear X-tacy afloat, it also takes a wider look at the health of the independent record store across the United States.
“They’re all struggling. The music industry, things have been tough for music retail for several years. It wasn’t just John,” says Shuffitt.
Shuffitt interviewed owners of other venerable indie stores like Cincinnati’s Shake-It Records and Austin’s Waterloo Records about the effect the tough economy and a struggling music industry has had on independent music retailers.
“The record stores that are out there, they’re trying really hard. They’re fighting every day to keep their customers, to build their customer base, and to make sure their customers are satisfied. But it’s not an easy fight by any means,” he says.
Saturday’s screening starts at 7 p.m. “Brick and Mortar and Love” will open in the Nashville Film Festival later this month.
